Greetings from Cardinal Keith Patrick O'BrienCardinal Keith O'Brien

“I was delighted to have been able to take part in a ‘Mission Mass’ in our parish church of Ss John Cantius & Nicholas in Broxburn on Trinity Sunday, Sunday 3 June 2007.

The parish had been visited by members of the Sion Community during the week prior to my own mission sermon and immediately prior to their week of celebration in the parish. I know that the members of the parish were stimulated by the apostolate of the Sion Community who indeed presented the basic themes of our Christian faith and stimulated parishioners to be prepared for an ongoing and increasing role in our Church at this present time, particularly in this Archdiocese of St Andrews and Edinburgh. May God indeed bless all members of Sion Community in their valued work of mission”.

Going Dutch In A New Diocesan Partnership

Sion Community has entered into a three-year partnership with Den Bosch Diocese in the Netherlands. We will be working with them to establish their Diocesan Parish Mission Team. Fr Gerard recently led a priests' retreat, looking at their essential call to evangelise. During Lent a successful mission was held in Helmund, with focused visiting to families on the Sacramental programme, school visits working together with a team of Ugandan youth missionaries and evening services at the parish church. There are two further parish missions planned for later this year.

PARISH PARTNERSHIPS IN PROGRESS

Through having our community base in the Salford diocese we have been able to enter into partnerships with two parishes there. St Monica's Flixton enjoyed a successful mission launch on Mothering Sunday, followed by an Eastertide School Mission. At
St Mary's Swinton, Monica has helped to form a primary school mission team (click here for news of their Lent 2008 Mission), Andy and Vicky are involved with their Sacramental Programme, whilst Fr Gerard is becoming involved with the parish's ecumenical work.

Read more on how Fr Brian Murphy, parish priest at St Mary's, understands this partnership in mission.

Time For Change?

Last September Sion Community relocated their Youth Ministry to SENT, our training centre in Brentwood.

SYDB, Sion Youth Discipleship Base

We would like to thank the Holy Cross Sisters who have generously given Youth Ministry accomodation for the last 8 years at Chalfont St Peter.

Congratulations Michelle!

Here she outlines her vision for the development of International Charismatic Renewal.

Congratulations on a very successful summer camp. Over 100 young people gathered at Brentwood at the end of July. The highlight for many was the all night Adoration Vigil, which was very well supported.

Be Involved in Mission!

The recent "Pass It On" course at St Gregory's, Northampton involved over 45 people, all interested in learning ways of sharing faith in practical and simple ways.

Come, Now Is The Time to Worship

On the last Sunday of every month SENT hosts a praise and worship meeting starting @ 7.30pm.

Open to all, just come along and join us. The evening is a great opportunity to come and pray with the Community and to experience the peace and joy that fellowship in Christ brings.
