Good News and the transforming work of the Spirit
by Fr Gerald Kelly
"The Good News of God's love for all, salvation in Christ, and new life in the Spirit is always the inspiration for the Church's mission. This central message of the Christian faith provides the fascination and attraction without which a truly free and joy-filled faith cannot be ignited. In Sion Community we recognise the need to be living in the experience of God's love which is fostered by a grateful heart, praise of God, and a recognition of his wonderful work in our lives. That which 'can' be celebrated 'must' be celebrated as a proclamation that, 'The Lord has done great things for us and holy is his name'.
At this time, Sion Community has much to celebrate as the Lord continues to guide and bless us. Simon Penhalagan's ordination to the priesthood as a Core Member of Sion Community is a joy to Simon and his family, a milestone in the development of Sion Community, and a great tribute to all our friends and benefactors who have provided financial support during his years of training.
The Community delights in Michelle Moran's election as world-wide President of ICCRS (International Catholic Charismatic Renewal Services) and subsequent invitation from Pope Benedict to take up a position on the Pontifical Council of the Laity. Michelle takes her membership of Sion Community to the highest levels of influence in the Church where she relies ever more deeply on our prayer and support.
We acknowledge with grateful thanks the work of Peter Moran who stands down from leadership after sixteen years of selfless commitment. We are now blessed to have Vicky Bunting as our newly elected Community Leader, and we hold her in prayer that she may be wise and courageous in her new role. Meanwhile, Msgr Pat Lynch continues to progress the life Céilí Community on Irish soil.
All there new developments are now celebrated by the Church as our statues are approved by Bishop Thomas McMahon giving Sion Community canonical status and a formal position in the profile of the Church. So much to celebrate! So much to give thinks to God for! And so many reasons to thank all our friends and benefactors who are invited to share in our joy.
