Membership
Sion Community is, first and foremost, a community - an association of committed Roman Catholic members who work together for the spread of the Gospel. Our members include deacons, married couples, priests, and single people of all ages and backgrounds who have joined together in a committed fellowship and work under the authority of the Catholic Bishops of England, Scotland and Wales.
At present, we are 13 full time Core and Formation Members, and 41 Associate Members. In 2020 we also opened up a form of membership for children under 18 (where one or both parents are also members) and welcomed our first 6 young members into a more formal relationship with Sion Community. If you want to become a Core Member, then you will be expected to journey through the Foundation and Induction Years to ensure that you are making the right decision, as it is a big step to take. Becoming an Associate Member is more straightforward but still involves discernment both on your own part and from the Community's perspective. If you want to become a Youth Member, again discernment is necessary. |
Other ways of working with the community include Hospitality Helpers who make a one-year commitment to serve in our ministry of welcome at our Brentwood residential centre, S.E.N.T., and Volunteer Visitors who assist with the door-to-door visiting which forms an integral part of our Parish-in-Mission events.
Occasionally we may advertise vacancies for paid administrative or support roles which do not require an explicit commitment to the Catholic Faith. For more detailed information of these different types of participation in the life of Sion Community, please follow the links provided to the appropriate pages on the website. For more written information, or to apply, please contact our Administrator using the form on this page or by phoning 01277 215011. |
Core Membershipis for those who work in full time ministry with Sion Community. As the name suggests, Core Members make up the core of the Community. Committed for the medium to long-term, most Core Members live in a community base and work full-time in each area of ministry that Sion Community is involved in.
|
Formation Membershipis for those preparing for Core Membership on our Induction, Discernment or Youth Programmes and wishing to spend one year, or more, in Sion Community.
|
Associate MembershipMost of our Associate Members are involved part-time in the direct ministry activity of Sion Community but full-time in their personal missionary call to evangelise, be that in their family, their workplace or university. A growing area of membership, most Associate Members live in their own homes.
|
Join UsSion Community is always open to new members joining us, preferably in full-time ministry or, where personal circumstances do not allow for this, as an Associate Member. If you are interested in journeying towards becoming a Core Member, a Youth Member (a young person thinking of a year of discipleship and mission) or an Associate Member, please contact our administrator by email or phoning 01277 215011. We look forward to hearing from you.
